We are writing with mixed news. While this particular submission is not exactly what we’re looking for, we enjoyed your work and encourage you to submit again in the future.
About this submission, our editors said: We love the format, and we LOVE the last line, the one about being born. But everyone is so beautiful and smart and romantic. It just doesn’t seem authentic. Maybe there’s an underlying hint of darkness? If so, the writer should play that up. The train comes to an end eventually, right?
(I just got this rejection for a short story I’ve been trying to get published. A lot of the rejections read like this. Does this mean I should edit it or does it mean someone is about to accept it? Hmmm… there just is no darkness here.) -
